Biography

James White was born in Buangor, VIC and was a Labourer when he enlisted in the 13th Light Horse Regiment, 7th Reinforcement on 19 July 1915 at the age of 26. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A40 Ceramic on 23 November 1915. While in Egypt he was assigned to the 2nd Division Ammunition Column as a driver, before moving to France in late March 1916. In December 1917 he became ill and in January 1918 he was transferred to hospital in England suffering from Trench Fever. He spent the final year of the war in England before returning to Australia on the Ypiringa and disembarking at Melbourne on July 5th 1919.
