Biography

Richard Henry Richards (SN 3603) was born in Dean and attended the local state school. As a 26 year old labourer he enlisted on July 19th 1915. He was assigned to the 24th Infantry Battalion and embarked from Melbourne in January 1916. On arrival in Egypt, he was transferred to the 8th Infantry Battalion. He reached France in March but was killed in action on May 20th 1916 near Bois Grenier, and is buried in Y Farm Military Cemetery, Bois Grenier, France.
