Biography

John Fenotti (SN 2141) was born in Mt Prospect, Victoria, was 20 years old, single and a jockey living in Ballarat South. when he enlisted on the 7th July 1915. He embarked from Melbourne in late September, travelling first to Egypt and then on to France to serve with the 24th Battalion. He was killed in the heavy fighting around Pozieres on 29th July 1916, but has no known grave and is commemorated on the Australian Memorial at Villers-Bretonneux, France. He was 21 years of age.

Lucas’s Staffs Appreciation of Brave Men, the original Avenue register, records his name as Fennotti.
