Albert Hon was born in Creswick and was a Labourer by trade when he enlisted in the 24th Battalion, 4th Reinforcement on 12 July 1915 at the age of 23. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A20 Hororata on 27 September 1915 and finally reached France in March 1916 to serve with the 24th Battalion. In late July 1916 he was wounded in action and evacuated to hospital in France then transferred to England. In February 1917 he left England to return to Australia on the Ulysses. He was discharged in May 1917 æmedically unfit – shell shock and disordered action of the heart (D.A.H.)'.
