Biography

Albert Edward Lepp (SN 4539) was born in Ballarat and attended the Golden Point State School, a couple of years ahead of his cousin Clarence Lepp. He was a 23 year old farmer when he enlisted in Ballarat on July 15th 1915. He initially joined the 8th Battalion but on arrival in Egypt was transferred to the 58th Battalion with which he reached France in June 1916. A month later, on July 19th, his battalion took part in the tragic charge at Fromelles. Albert was listed as missing, and it was not until a Court of Enquiry on September 2nd 1917 that he was confirmed as killed in action. His mother, Margaret, finally received news of his death on September 15th. He is buried at Ration Farm Military Cemetery near Armentieres in France.

His brothers Arthur and Reginald also served in the AIF and are recognised with trees in the Avenue.
