Joseph Patterson was born in Buangor, but enlisted from Ballarat South on 15th July 1915. He stated that he was 27 years of age, unmarried and a miner. He was drafted to the 24th Infantry Battalion, with Regimental No. 2427. On 4th August 1916 he was killed in action at Pozieres, and is buried in Ribement Communal Cemetery, France.
