Biography

Joseph Patterson (SN 2427) born at Buangor, was placed in the Ballarat Orphanage at age 11. He enlisted in Ballarat on July 15th 1915. He was 27 years of age, unmarried and a miner. He was posted to the 24th Infantry Battalion and embarked from Melbourne in late September on board the Osterley. He arrived in France in March 1916 and on August 4th 1916 he was killed in action at Pozieres. He has no known grave, and is remembered on the Australian Memorial at Villers-Bretonneux, France.
