Biography

William Christopher Rashleigh (SN 4296) was born in Ballarat where he attended the Humffray Street State School. He enlisted in Melbourne on August 3rd 1915 as a 24 year old, single, railway employee. He was posted to the 14th Infantry Battalion and sailed from Melbourne in January 1916 on board the Demosthenes. After three months training in Egypt, he arrived in France in June 1916. On August 12th 1916 he died of wounds sustained at Pozieres, and is buried in Puchevillers British Cemetery, France.
