Biography

Raymond Walter Vickery (SN 8009) born at Ballarat, was a 22 year old chemist when he enlisted in Ballarat on July 24th 1915. He embarked aboard the Ascanius on November 10th and after further training in England he reached France in June 1916. He served with the 18th Company Australian Service Corps and came through the war avoiding serious illness or injury. In April 1918 he was Mentioned in Despatches by General Sir Douglas Haig for his ‘conspicuous service’. He was promoted to Warrant Officer for his return as Quarter Master Sergeant aboard the Beltana. He disembarked at Melbourne on July 19th 1919 and was discharged on September 20th.
