Biography

Robert Burns Morham (SN 1720) born in Ballarat, was a 22 year old farmer when he enlisted in Melbourne on February 24th 1916. On April 4th he embarked aboard the Eurpides and reached England on June 23rd . While training in England he was hospitalised for 40 days at Bulford due to illness. He joined the 60th Battalion in France in June 1917 but illness forced him back to England in October. He returned to France, now with the 58th Battalion, in January 1918. On April 6th 1918 he was wounded in action suffering a gunshot wound that fractured his left arm. He was evacuated to England for return to Australia. He left England on the Arawa on September 15th, reached Melbourne on November 17th and was discharged on February 10th 1919 ‘medically unfit, loss of use of left arm’.

Lucas’s Staffs Appreciation of Brave Men, the original Avenue register, records his name as Robert B. Morhan.
