Biography

Frederick (Fred) John Larter (SN 2496) was born in Geelong but was educated at Ballarat High School and the School of Mines. At the time of his enlistment in Melbourne on August 12th 1915, he was 34 years old, unmarried, and employed as a clerk. He was posted as a Sapper to 2nd Australian Field Company Engineers and embarked from Sydney in December on board the Mooltan. While serving on the Western Front he became ill and was evacuated to hospital, but died on November 27th 1918 of broncho-pneumonia (Spanish Flu). He is buried in the Janval Cemetery, Dieppe, France.
