Biography

Walter Henry Williams was a single 18 year old labourer from Ballarat. He enlisted on the 6th of March 1916. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A11 Ascanius on the 27th of May 1916. On the 30th of March 1917 he was appointed Lance Corporal. He was wounded in action on May 2nd 1917 with shrapnel wounds to his left forearm. He rejoined his battalion on the 21st of May. On the 6th of August 1917 Walter was appointed Corporal. He was wounded in action for a second occasion on the 12th of July 1918 with a gunshot wound to his shoulder. He rejoined his battalion on the 29th of August 1918. He was wounded in action for a third occasion on the 9th of September 1918 with shrapnel wound to his left arm. Walter returned to Australia on the 12th of December 1918 and was discharged as medically unfit on the 11th of March 1919.
