Percy Edward Bannister (SN 819) was born in Birmingham, England, but was a metal machinist from Sturt Street in Ballarat when he enlisted on September 21st 1914. He was 25 years of age. In December he sailed from Australia on the Ulysses to serve with the 14th Battalion. On May 5th 1915 he was evacuated from Gallipoli but it is unclear from his service record whether this was due to rheumatism or a battlefield wound. After assessment in Egypt he was deemed unfit for further active service. He returned to Australia aboard the Hororata and was discharged on February 2nd 1916.
