Thomas William Krygger (SN 2702) was born in Ballarat but was resident in Williamstown when, as a 24 year old labourer, he enlisted on July 22nd 1915. He left Melbourne three months later, on October 27th, aboard the Ulysses. On arrival in Egypt he joined the 57th Battalion but was soon after transferred to the 58th Battalion. He moved on to France in July 1916 and was assigned to the 14th Field Artillery Brigade as a driver. He avoided major battle wounds but in 1917 illness required his hospitalisation for 47 days. The other major incident of his service came in May 1918 when he was charged with ‘being in possession of plunder’. He was found guilty and forfeited 51 day’s pay. After the war he returned to Australia aboard the Orontes and disembarked at Melbourne on June 28th 1919.
