Arthur Watson (SN 1957) was a 26 year old motor driver and mechanic from Drummond Street when he enlisted on September 14th 1914. On December 22nd he left Australia on the Ceramic to serve with the 14th Battalion. He was wounded in action at Gallipoli on August 8th 1915 when he received gunshot wounds to his right hand and thigh. He was evacuated to hospital at Mudros, then to Malta, then to England. He rejoined his unit in Egypt in January 1916 after the Gallipoli evacuation. He went on to serve in France where he was hospitalised several times due to illness, but his service record also indicates a number of discipline charges including striking an NCO, using threatening language to a Warrant Officer, being drunk while in charge of a lorry and being in possession of an unauthorised firearm. He was returned to Australia on the Burma and disembarked at Melbourne on January 29th 1919.
