Biography

Arthur Corker (SN 4462) from Windermere Street, was a 27 year old motor driver at the time of his enlistment on August 5th 1915. He trained with the 20th Depot Battalion at Castlemaine before embarking for the battlefields aboard the Themistocles on January 28th 1916. While serving with the 58th Battalion in France he was wounded in action on three separate occasions, each time the wounds serious enough to require his evacuation to hospital in England. Even there he wasn’t safe. In November 1918, while recovering from his third wound, a head injury caused by shrapnel, he was struck by a car and received an ankle injury. He returned home on the Karmala, disembarking in Melbourne on February 15th 1919.
