Biography

Eric Cecil Browne (SN 5275 / Lieutenant) was a 25 year old electrical engineer from Melbourne when he enlisted in Ballarat on October 27th 1915. He trained with the 3rd Light Horse Signal Troop before embarking aboard the Afric on January 5th 1916. In April 1916 he was transferred to the Anzac Signal Squadron with whom he served in Egypt and Palestine. Just a month before the war’s end he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant. After the war he returned to Australia on the Malta and disembarked at Melbourne on August 7th 1919. He was discharged on September 29th 1919.
