Biography

Frederick Edgar Williams (SN 4961) from Soldiers Hill in Ballarat, was working as a barman at Boulder W.A. when he enlisted at Blackboy Hill on January 24th 1916. He embarked from Fremantle on April 1st aboard the Ulysses and reached England in mid-May. In December 1916 he joined the 1st Anzac Cyclists Battalion in France with whom he served until he was transferred to the 16th Battalion in February 1918. On June 24th 1918 he sustained a gunshot wound to his abdomen and died the following day. He was 35 years of age and is buried in the Daours Communal Cemetery Extension in France.
