Biography

Charles Jervis JOHNSON (SN 4064) was a 35 year old hairdresser at Apollo Bay when he enlisted on September 7th 1916. He trained with the 19th Depot Battalion in Geelong before embarking aboard the Port Melbourne on October 21st 1916. After time in England he reached France in April 1917 to serve with the 29th Battalion. From June to October 1918 he was attached to the YMCA in France. He served out the final month of the war with the 32nd Battalion before returning to Australia on the Orita and disembarking at Melbourne on August 6th 1919.
