Biography

John Daniel Trevethan (SN 12/2178) from Anderson Street in Ballarat was a 22 year plumber but enlisted at Reefton in New Zealand on February 15th 1915. On June 8th 1915 he came ashore at Gallipoli to serve with the Auckland Infantry Battalion. Less than three weeks later, on June 27th, he suffered a shrapnel wound to his leg and was evacuated to hospital in Egypt. A year later, almost to the day, on September 26th 1916 he suffered a severe gunshot wound to his knee in France. He was evacuated to hospital in England where he was assessed as unfit for further active service. He returned to New Zealand on the Marama and was discharged on May 13th 1917.
