Robert Jackson (SN 6835) was a 22 year old farmer at Scotsburn when he enlisted on June 14th 1916 and trained with the 1st Depot Battalion at Royal Park. He continued training with the 39th Battalion before embarking on the Ascanius on May 11th 1917 to sail to England. There he joined the 6th Training Battalion until he crossed to France in January 1918 to join the 23rd Battalion. On September 1st he suffered a bullet wound to his left foot but was able to rejoin his unit in late October to serve out the last three weeks of the war. He returned to Australia on the Ypiring, disembarking at Melbourne on January 4th 1920.
