George Zennis Hudson (SN 7509) was born in England but was a 23 year old farmer at Scotsburn when he enlisted in Ballarat on June 15th 1917. As a reinforcement for the 8th Infantry Battalion he embarked from Melbourne aboard the Nestor in November, travelled via Egypt, and reached the battlefields of France in early April 1918. He received a severe shrapnel wound to his right wrist on August 11th in the fighting at Cerisy-Hamel, near Amiens, and was evacuated to hospital in England. He recovered and returned to France just five days before the Armistice was signed. With the cessation of hostilities he was transferred, as a driver, to the 1st Division Train, Service Corps, whose primary focus was logistics and supply in demobilising thousands of troops. He finally returned to Australia aboard the Norman, disembarked at Melbourne on August 18th 1919 and was discharged three weeks later.
