Leslie Armstrong Walker (SN 805) was born in Ballarat and attended the Macarthur Street State School. He was a 24 year old labourer when he enlisted on September 29th 1916. He embarked aboard the Orontes on December 23rd and reached England in mid-February 1917 assigned to the 2nd Anzac Cyclist Battalion. Illness and an absent without leave charge interrupted his training but in October he crossed to France as a reinforcement for the 8th Battalion. Illness frequently interrupted his service and even after the Armistice he was hospitalised with influenza. He returned home aboard the Shropshire, disembarking at Melbourne on May 16th 1919. He was discharged a month later.
