Biography

Ernest John Wills (SN 2943) was born in Ballarat but enlisted at Blackboy Hill, W.A., on July 26th 1915. He was a miner, 33 years old and a bachelor. He was posted to the 4th Heavy Trench Mortar Battery and embarked from Fremantle aboard the Hororata in early October. He reached the battlefields of France in June 1916 but on June 2nd 1917 he suffered severe head wounds when an artillery shell exploded close to him, and he died of his wounds that day. He is buried in Pont d'Achelles Military Cemetery, Nieppe, France.
