Born in Ballarat, Archibald Smith Johnson was a single 25 year old labourer at the time of his enlistment in Broadmeadows, Victoria on the 17th of February 1916. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board RMS Malwa on the 21st of March 1916.
He was discharged as medically unfit on the 15th of February 1918.
