Biography

Alexander Reynard William Dowler (SN 3226) born at Weatherboard, Burrumbeet, was a 22 year old farmer when he enlisted in Ballarat on March 14th 1916. He embarked aboard the Berrima on July 4th, to England and then to France in November to join the 29th Infantry Battalion. During his service he avoided battle wounds but was troubled by mumps and influenza. He was returned to Australia on the Dunluce Castle and discharged on June 28th 1918, ‘medically unfit, intestinal intoxication’.
