Edwin Mitchell (SN 1393) was born in Avoca and educated at Maryborough State School. He enlisted in Melbourne on November 17th 1914. He was 44 years old, single and employed as a printer. He became a Private in the 6th Infantry Battalion, departing Australia in February 1915 on board the Clan Macgillivray destined for Gallipoli. He was killed during the Landing at Anzac Cove on April 25th 1915, has no known grave and his name is on the Australian Memorial at Lone Pine, Gallipoli, Turkey.
