Edward John Reed was born in Ballarat, was married to Mrs. R Reed of 282 Barkley Street, St Kilda and was a Printer when he enlisted in the 5th Battalion, H Company on 22 August 1914 at the age of 39. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board Transport A3 Orvieto on 21 October 1914. Unfortunately his tour was cut short as he received a gunshot wound to the hand on 19 May 1915, resulting in his being discharged to Australia on 24 November 1915.
