Biography

George Welsh (SN 4219) was born in Ballarat but attended the Berringa State School. He enlisted in Melbourne on December 29th 1915. He was single, 18 years old, a labourer. He was posted to the 24th Infantry Battalion and embarked in early March 1916, reaching France in November. During 1917 he faced several absent without leave charges and was transferred to the 58th Infantry Battalion. On September 6th 1918, he died of wounds received at Peronne, and is buried in the Heath Cemetery, Harbonnieres, France.
