Biography

Eric Erskine Llewellyn was born in Ballarat, but enlisted from Charlton as a bank clerk on 17th March 1916. He was 21 years old and single. He was a member of the 59th Infantry Battalion, with Regimental No. 2209. He embarked for the UK on HMAT "Orsova" but became seriously ill during the voyage. The ship stopped at Capetown, South Africa, on 23rd August 1916, and Private Llewellyn was transferred to the Infectious Diseases Hospital. He died of cerebro-spinal meningitis on 27th August 1916, and is buried in the Maitland Cemetery , Capetown , South Africa.
