Biography

Eric Erskine Llewellyn (SN 2209) was born in Ballarat where he attended Ballarat High School. He enlisted on March 17th 1916 at Charlton where he was employed as a bank clerk. The 21 year old was a member of the 59th Infantry Battalion when he embarked for the UK on board the Orsova at the beginning of August but became seriously ill during the voyage. The ship stopped at Capetown, South Africa on August 23rd 1916, and Private Llewellyn was transferred to the Infectious Diseases Hospital. He died of cerebro-spinal meningitis on August 27th 1916 and is buried in the Maitland Cemetery , Capetown, South Africa.
