Biography

Thomas Albert Cousins (SN 6494) born in Ballarat, was an 18 year old labourer when he enlisted on May 9th 1915. On October 2nd he embarked aboard the Nestor for overseas service with the 8th Infantry Battalion. After further training in England he was moved to France in February 1917 but after little more than a month he was returned to England suffering from trench feet. Once recovered he resumed his service until he was wounded in action in August 1918. He suffered a gunshot wound to his knee which effectively ended his active service. He returned to Australia aboard the Ascanius, disembarked on November 6th 1919 and was discharged December 21st. He also enlisted to serve during World War 2.
