Samuel Ernest Wilson (SN 1622 ) born at Ballarat, was a 30 year old labourer when he enlisted at Bendigo on November 28th 1914 . He embarked aboard the Runic on February 19th 1915 and on May 5th he landed at Gallipoli to serve with the 5th Infantry Battalion. From this point his service was dominated by numerous disciplinary charges and an extended period of hospitalisation due to a social disease. He returned to Australia aboard the Carpentaria, disembarked at Melbourne on November 17th 1918 and was discharged on January 11th 1919 ‘medically unfit, hernia’.
