Biography

Charles Gordon Campbell (SN 3130) was born at Glen Park and educated at Macarthur Street State School and Ballarat High School. When he enlisted on September 29th 1916 he was 24 years old, single, a teacher at Tyntynder State School. He embarked for overseas service on December 16th aboard the Medic and sailed to England. He continued training in England until he joined the 57th Regiment in France in mid-November 1917. He was killed in action at Messines Ridge in Belgium on March 11th 1918, aged 25. He has no known grave but his name is recorded on the Australian National Memorial at Villers-Bretonneux, France, and on the honour boards of Ballarat High School and Glen Park State School.
