William Alexander Dunstan (SN 17774) born in Ballarat, was a 30 year old carpenter when he enlisted in Melbourne on October 2nd1916. He embarked aboard the Marathon on May 10th 1917 and sailed to England. After further training in England he moved to France in March 1918 to serve with the 3rd Field Company Engineers. He came through the war without significant harm and returned to Australia aboard the Ormonde, disembarked at Melbourne on August 1st 1919 and was discharged on August 31st.
His brother Alfred also served in the AIF and is honoured with a tree in the Avenue.
