Hugh Curtis Clarkson was born in Harcourt and was attending Melbourne University when he enlisted. Her was 19 years old and single. He joined the 6th Australian Field Artillery Brigade, with Regimental No. 34960. He fill ill and was diagnosed with the flu. He was being treated at the UK 12th General Hospital when he died on 4th November 1918 of broncho-pneumonia. He is buried at St Sever Cemetery Extension, France.
