Biography

John Tenant Veitch was born in Ballarat and was a Miner when he enlisted in the Mining Corps Reinforcements 1 – 3 on 14 January 1916 at the age of 34. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A14 Euripides on 4 April 1916. In September 1916 he joined the 1st Australian Tunnelling Company in France. For a time he was detached to the Australian Veterinary Hospital, but returned to the 1st ATC with whom he saw out the war. He departed England on April 20th 1919 aboard the Boonah, disembarked at Melbourne on June 8th and was discharged a month later.
