Born in Corindhap, Victoria, Alexander Reid McLachlan was a single 24 year old motor mechanic at the time of his enlistment in Ballarat on the 24th of March 1916. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A19 Afric on the 5th of June 1916.
Alexander returned to Australia on the 25th of October 1919, and was discharged due to the termination of his enlistment period on the 17th of December 1919.
