Biography

Alexander Kennedy (SN 1561) was born in Miners Rest and attended the local state school. At the time of his enlistment in Horsham on December 2nd 1914, he was 35 years old, unmarried and employed as a plumber. He was posted to the 5th Infantry Battalion and sailed from Melbourne in February 1915 on board the Runic. He Joined his unit at Gallipoli in early May but was transferred to hospital in Cairo with bronchitis just a couple of weeks later. He rejoined his unit in July but was killed in action during the fighting around Hill 60 at Gallipoli on August 25th, 1915. He is buried in Gallipoli's Lone Pine Cemetery.
