Clive Edwin Strickland was born in Ballarat East and was a Clerk by trade when he enlisted in the Army Medical Corps, General Reinforcements on 24 May 1917 at the age of 19. His unit embarked from Adelaide, South Australia, on board HMAT A36 Boonah on 22 October 1918. He reached London in September and sailed for France on November 9th. He marched in to the Australian General Base Depot on November 13th, two days after the Armistice was signed. He returned home on the Ulysses, reaching Melbourne on September 2nd 1919.
