Biography

Robert Malachy Serjeant was born in Ballarat and enlisted there on 4th December 1914. He was 19 years old, single, and student at School of Mines, Ballarat. He was posted to the 8th Infantry Battalion, with Regimental No. 1238. He was promoted to Corporal during his service. He was severely wounded during the Landing at Anzac Cove, and was being evacuated to Alexandria when he died on 29th April 1915. He was buried at sea between Gallipoli and Alexandria. His name is on the Lone Pine Memorial, Gallipoli, Turkey.
