Biography

Robert Malachy Serjeant (SN 1238) was born in Ballarat where he enlisted on December 4th 1914. He was 19 years old, single, and a student at the School of Mines, Ballarat. He was posted to the 8th Infantry Battalion and was promoted to Corporal before embarking for active service in February 1915. He was severely wounded during the Landing at Anzac Cove, and was being evacuated to hospital at Alexandria when he died on April 29th 1915. He was buried at sea between Gallipoli and Alexandria and his name is listed on the Lone Pine Memorial, Gallipoli, Turkey.
