Biography

Thomas Anthony Swinbourne was born in Ballarat, Victoria, was single and a Clerk when he enlisted with the April 1917 Reinforcements on 9 February 1917 at the age of 19. His unit embarked from Sydney, New South Wales, on board HMAT A72 Beltana on 16 June 1917. He received his first promotion to Corporal on 26 November 1917 at Yatesbury and in April 1918 was appointed at Acting Sergeant, receiving a full promotion to Sergeant in June 1918. He was serving as a Sergeant Clerk at the end of the war, returning to Australia from England on 6 May 1919.
