Andrew John Phelan (SN 4673) was born in Ballarat, was an 18 year old packer when he enlisted in Melbourne on May 31st 1917. As a General Service Reinforcement he embarked from Sydney on April 30th 1918, reaching Egypt in early June. Two weeks after reaching Egypt he accidentally injured his ankle. On November 18th 1918 he was posted to the 8th Light Horse Regiment, but by this time the Armistice had been signed and fighting had ceased. He returned to Australia and was discharged on November 16th 1919.
