Biography

Andrew John Phelan was born in Ballarat and was a Packer living on Simpson Street, East Melbourne when he enlisted in the LH14FEB1918 (Light Horse) on 8 June 1917 at the age of 18. It was reported that he accidentally injured his left ankle on 19 June 1918, resulting in an oblique fracture of the left fibula. The wound was accidental and significant enough to be marked as possibly interfering with active service, and Phelan was cleared of any blame. He received a medical discharge on 16 November 1919. His name does not appear on Nominal Roll
