Leslie Worthington (SN 51501) was born in Ballarat, and was an 18 year old labourer when he enlisted in Melbourne on August 7th 1917. He was grouped with the 2nd General Service Recruits and embarked for the UK on May 1st 1918. The voyage was via the Panama Canal then New York where, on June 12th 1918, he attempted to break ship in New York harbour. In so doing, he misjudged his step and fell on the dock and the into the harbour. His body was not recovered for a day. He is buried in Greenwood Cemetery, Brooklyn, USA.
