Biography

William Samuel Williams (SN 22184) was born at Blackwood near Ballan and was a 35 year old salesman when he enlisted in Sydney on November 20th 1917. On March 21st 1918 he embarked from Sydney on the Persic and disembarked at London on May 24th. Posted to the Field Company Engineers he continued to train in England until hostilities ceased. He crossed to France in January 1919 and spent four months there before returning to Australia. He left England on July 22nd 1919 aboard the Ulysses, disembarked on September 5th and was discharged on September 28th 1919

Lucas’s Staffs Appreciation of Brave Men, the original Avenue register, records his name as William S. William.
