Biography

William John Thistlethwaite (SN7556) was born at Koroit but was a 25 year old printer when he enlisted in Broken Hill on August 31st 1917. He embarked from Melbourne aboard the Aeneas on October 30th and reached England on December 20th . He crossed to France in April 1918 and served out the final months of the war with the 10th Infantry Battalion. He returned to Australia on the Prinz Ludwig, disembarked at Melbourne on September 5th and was discharged on October 5th 1919.

Lucas’s Staffs Appreciation of Brave Men, the original Avenue register, records his name as William J. Thistlewaite.
