Allan Francis Crouch (SN 3073) born in Stawell, was a 22 year old manager when he enlisted in Melbourne on June 30th 1915. Initially assigned to the 21st Infantry Battalion, he embarked on October 15th and on arrival in Egypt was transferred to the 60th Battalion. He reached the Western Front in early July 1916 and on July 19th he suffered a severe gunshot wound to his arm in the tragic charge at Fromelles. The wound was serious, his arm was fractured, and he was returned to Australia aboard the Karoola and was discharged on ‘medically unfit, wounded’ on May 22nd 1917. He also enlisted to serve during WW2 with service number V17447.
