Biography

Thomas Francis Purcell was born in Colac, VIC, was single and a Bank Clerk when he enlisted in the 8th Light Horse Regiment on 14 March 1918 at the age of 20. His unit embarked from Sydney aboard the H.M.A.T. Wiltshire on 10 June 1918. On Nov. 11, 1918, fighting in World War I came to an end following the signing of an armistice between the Allies and Germany that called for a ceasefire effective at 11 a.m He returned to Australia aboard the Malta on 7 August 1919.
