Biography

Norman Campbell Carmichael (SN 55353) born in Ballarat, was an 18 year old student plumbing trade teacher at Ballarat Junior Technical School when he enlisted in Ballarat on January 23rd 1918. With the 6th General Service Reinforcements, he embarked from Sydney aboard the Borda on July 17th and sailed to England. While in England he was allotted to the 6th Infantry Battalion but was not deployed to France until after the fighting had ceased. Aside from a bout of influenza, he completed his service without suffering harm. He returned to Australia aboard the Suevic, disembarked on September 10th 1919 and was discharged two weeks later on September 25th.
