Herbert McTaggart (SN 1463) was born in Ballarat East and enlisted there on December 21st 1914. He was 23 years old, single and a miner. He was sent to the 7th Infantry Battalion. At Gallipoli on the July 28th 1915, he was hit by an artillery shell and died instantly. He is buried in Beach Cemetery, Gallipoli, Turkey.
