Herbert McTaggart (SN 1463) was born in Ballarat East and enlisted there on December 21st 1914. He was 23 years old, single and a miner. He was allotted to the 7th Infantry Battalion and embarked in February 1915 on board the Clan Macgillivray . At Gallipoli on the July 28th 1915, he was hit by an artillery shell and died instantly. He is buried in Beach Cemetery, Gallipoli, Turkey.
