Biography

Louis Clifton Reiffel was born in Ballarat, was single and working as a Driver when he enlisted in the 1st Egypt General Reinforcements on 6 March 1918 at the age of 22. His unit embarked from Sydney on 10 June 1918 and disembarked at Suez on 17 July 1918. He was transferred to the 8th Light Horse Regiment in Egypt and remained there until, on Nov. 11, 1918, fighting in World War I came to an end following the signing of an armistice between the Allies and Germany that called for a ceasefire. He returned to Australia from Malta on 7 August 1919.
