Norman Samuel Block (SN 1574) was born in Warrnambool, but enlisted from Ballarat on December 11th 1914. He was single, 19 years old and a labourer when he was drafted to the 14th Infantry Battalion. Seriously wounded at Gallipoli, he was being evacuated to a hospital on Malta when he died on June 8th 1915. He was buried at sea near Malta, and his name is recorded on the Lone Pine memorial, Gallipoli, Turkey.
